In the current business environment of increased globalization along with
rigid competition, innovation and technology have caused an urge for strategic
leadership in order to overcome rigid competiton. Meanwhile, only a few researches
has been examined about leadership styles used by entrepreneurs, especially in the
context of Ciputra university student projects have been examined. Thus, it is
critical for a research to explore best leadership approach, which includes
transformational leadership style, transactional leadership style and passiveavoidant
leadership style for business purposes. This research specifically focuses
on the Ciputra University 2014 students who majored in Bachelor of Business with
their established entrepreneurial projects. The research is done using descriptive
method through online survey with total of 72 students. The data were analyzed
through descriptive statistic test results. The result demonstrates that the majority
of Ciputra university students use transactional leadership styles in their project/
start-up businesses. Thus, it is suggested that students adopt transformational
leaderships style or transactional leadership styles that are better for business
purposes.
