Indonesia needs entrepreneurs to expand the nation’s economics. Recently, there have been rapid movements to create entrepreneurs. Consequently, it’s predicted that the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia will meet the ideal number, which is 2%. Unfortunately, it’s not only good news but also bad news for entrepreneurs. The competitive era due to the increasing amount of business ventures gives higher risks for a business to fail. Therefore, entrepreneurs’ well being is concerned as it indicates mental health and affects productivity at work. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between social support and well being among entrepreneurs. Social support was predicted to be the variable which correlated to well being. The researcher was interested in looking at social support’s contribution to well being in entrepreneurs whom supposed to be independent and autonomous. Research methodology used in this research was quantitative method with correlational design. Measuring scales used in this research were modification of MSPSS (to measure social support) and adaptation of PLS-R (to measure well being). The population of this study was entrepreneurs in Surabaya with sample’s criterions as follows: the business had lasted for at least 3 years, still working and located in Surabaya. The scales were given to 94 entrepreneurs through incidental sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson Product Moment. As hypothesized, there was a very significant positive correlation between social support and well being among entrepreneurs in Surabaya (r = 0,279; pvalue < 0,001). This meant the higher the level of social support, the higher the level of well being. Well being’s aspects that were found correlated to social support were life satisfaction (r = 0,340; p-value < 0,001) and vitality to challenge (r = 0,203; p-value < 0,05). Meanwhile, the sources of support that were found correlated to well being, were supports from work colleagues (r = 0,292; p-value < 0,01) and family (r = 0,207; p-value < 0,05). The explanation of the findings that included the role of social support and other possible factor that may contribute to well being were discussed. Given the very significant correlation between social support and well being, it is concluded that social support is still needed even for entrepreneurs. It is suggested for entrepreneurs to become more open towards supports from their social networks. They should be more assertive when they need helps. It is also advised for entrepreneurs’ family to create supportive environments.en_US
Dukungan sosial diduga menjadi variabel yang berhubungan dengan well being. Artinya, semakin tinggi tingkat dukungan sosial, semakin tinggi pula tingkat well being subyek. Tetapi perlu diperhatikan bahwa kekuatan korelasi kedua variabel tergolong lemah. Aspek well being yang ditemukan berhubungan dengan dukungan sosial adalah life satisfaction (r = 0,340; p-value < 0,001) dan vitality to challenge (r = 0,203; p-value < 0,05).
