Uniqueness and Added Value Through Story Adaptation and VisualizationIization of Traditional Javanese - Indonesian Wayang Culture in Comics. Case studies of Garudayana comics and Grand Legend Ramayana
Abstract
Garudayana and Grand Legend Ramayana are Indonesian comics created by Is Yuniarto by adapting Wayang Jawa (Javanese Wayang) as inspiration for his character designs. The comic received a positive response from the Indonesian domestic market because of its uniqueness, namely the adaptation of local Javanese - Indonesian Wayang culture to visualize its characters. The uniqueness of the adaptation element of traditional Javanese - Indonesian Wayang culture attracted Japanese companies to license and print Japanese versions of Garudayana comics. The IP (Intellectual Property) of one of the characters that appears in the Garudayana comics, namely the character Gatotkaca, is also used in the Mobile Legend Bang Bang game as a representative of heroes from Indonesia. Traditional cultures are still rarely exposed and when used as a visual reference in comics, it promotes uniqueness and gives additional value to comics.
