Berkota dan Menjalani Narasi Urban: Studi Kasus Revitalisasi Kawasan Malioboro

Abstract

Malioboro, a quintessential place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia undergoes a shift. Malioboro pedestrian area which has been used as parking spot for motorbikes, now being returned to its ideal function to provide a wide space for pedestrians (city walkers). When the official government runs this newst policy, it deals with contestation from many layers of society, people who dwell in different social class or identity or driven by diverse political economy use. This new pedestrian lane does not only provide a new space for pedestrian, it is used by many kind of people, travellers, street vendors, city inhabitants, local government. This research will be examined, firstly, how pedestrian lane in Malioboro used and consumed by people as space. Secondly, how this space can narrate the urban stories of its people and thirdly how Malioboro?s pedestrian lane combine the humane and commercial aim in such space. This research outlines several concepts, such as: consumption and Michel de Certeau and John Urry?s work on urban narrative.
