    Abstract
Family business is considered unique among the common ordinary businesses. There is a pattern of behaviour called family dynamics when the company will be inherited across generations. It is called as succession process. Leading - up is important during this process, because the successor needs to lead the employee and the predecessor/ current owner (which means the successor’s father). This research emphasizes that leading is not always about the power or position, but about the influence. The purpose of this research is to find out the factors that significantly affect the upward leadership in family business. The factors included in this research are trust, communication, character, intention, capability, experience, and education. The sample was taken from Universitas Ciputra Family Business Community consisting of family business successors who graduated with bachelor degree. Using the SPSS 23 program, the result indicates that capability and communication have the significant impact towards upward leadership, followed by the intention factor which slightly have a significant impact on the dependent variable
