Analyzing The Uses and Gratification of The Players Towards The Video Game Halo
Abstract
Video games has been played worldwide and has been a part of every audience’s childhood for as long as anyone can remember and its influence has spread like an extreme wildfire throughout the world as video games has been adapted to numerous medias such as TV shows, and movies. Video games in the past went from being extremely simplistic games like Pong from the year 1972 to the extremely complex games like the ever-popular Fortnite. With every video game there are always games that are famous, iconic, and masterpieces even as said by audiences or players. Those video games are Uncharted, Kingdom Hearts, Call of Duty, Team Fortress 2, and Counter-Strike. But none has been as influential as a video game like the first-person shooter called, Halo. Not only was the video game Halo such influential, but like the other games mentioned, Halo was also revered as a masterpiece, a famous video game and an iconic one. In fact, Halo was very great to the point that thousands of crowds waited outside of a video game store just for Halo only, as even the news outlets and media outlets covered on Halo too with reports from both of the outlets saying that Halo has sold approximately 2.4 million of copies in just a day which rivaled that of the amount of the movie box office. This research is carried out by the use of a method called descriptive research. The methods of collecting the data will be through the use of interviews. From the results of the research and discussing with three informants in an interview, it is found out that the reason the audience played the video game Halo is because of the well-told story of the video game, the compelling characters, the gameplay is what made Halo a wonderful and great game to play. The results of the researcher have also stated that it was described by the informant that the video game Halo is described as an epic-adventure game, an entertaining fast-pace video game where all the elements of the first-person shooter are there. The audience had gotten satisfaction, relaxation, and enjoyment whenever they played Halo.
